2018 La Grapperie 'Adonis'
Grape/s: Pineau d'Aunis
This wine should be served slightly cold, but not icy. Medium dark red in colour, and lighter around the edges. Very perfumed. Really has that forest smell. Wild berries, strawberries and raspberries. That ever-so subtle volatility that we love, that lifts the perfume beautifully. Dark roses, bramble and a mix of exotic spices. Opens up quite quickly, and by the second glass your nose will be immersed in the wine. Big strawberry vibes. To drink the wine is raw and true. Nice fine tannins, skilful extraction. Sweet fruit, with a touch of savoury, and a darker mineral core. Medium acidity, lovely tension that builds, and loads of freshness upfront. Blueberry skin, darker berry skins. The wine definitely has power, and is more of a wine than a glou glou drink. Quite sensual. Violets, dark strawberries and a magical twist. It has woken up in time for Spring and Summer, and is such a pleasure to drink now. But it is also a wine to keep, as I believe it will evolve beautifully. Don't miss it. - Ryan Larkin
