2019 Testalonga 'Skin'
Grape/s: Chenin Blanc
"Now we come to where it all started," he says. The El Bandito Skin was first wine to be made under the Testalonga label, and immediately shot Craig to fame (or is it infamy?). The 2019 is made with grapes from 1972 Paardeberg bush vine Chenin, planted on granite. It was fermented on the skins for eight days before being pressed into one 3000L foudre.
A relatively shy nose compared to the above - hints of citrus and stone fruit plus earth and spice. Of Hawkin"s white wines, this appears to have the most weight and depth although with an alcohol of 11.78%, it"s still light by most standards. Lovely texture and freshness.
